HOW TO PURCHASE A TOP U.S. COMPANIES LIST

Step 1 - Selecting Which Top U.S. Companies List To Buy


To buy one of our popular lists of Top U.S. companies, click on "Top U.S. Companies Lists" under the Section Heading "Online Purchasing" on the Vanguard Publishing homepage. You will see a page with 19 different lists to choose from. While most of these Top Lists are based upon Industry, 3 Top Lists are based on either number of employees or annual revenues. The U.S. Public Companies list contains company information on businesses that are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), American Stock Exchange (ASE), or are traded publicly Over-the-Counter (OTC). Use the checkboxes to select the List(s) that you wish to purchase.

Step 1B - Select All or Some of the Companies


To select all the companies in the List you selected in Step 1, click the "Next Step" box for "Select all.." To select a certain number of companies in your List with the largest 1999 annual revenues, fill in the number of records you want then click "Next Step." To select companies in your List selection that have 1999 annual revenues in excess x amount, fill in the amount then click "Next Step."

Step 2 - Select the Record Format Desired


Select "Mailing List Format" for your direct mail campaigns. Pricing for this format ranges from only 5 cents to 9 cents per record. For more targeted direct mail marketing or promotional programs where you require the phone number and name of an executive contact, select "Contact List Format". Records purchased in this format run from 7 cents to 15 cents per record. If you require detailed information on each business in your List, you can select "Complete Record Format." This format includes vital comapny data including SIC code, phone, fax, number of employees range, industry, annual 1999 revenues, and contact names and titles. Full Record Format pricing is 15 cents to 26 cents per record. Decide which format meets your requirements, select or de-select the fields of data within that desired format, then click on "Next Step."

Step 3, Part 1 - Purchase by Entering your E-Mail Address and Password or Register


If you have previously registered with us, just enter the E-Mail address and Password used at Registration, then click on "Login," If this is the first time you have purchased from us, please click on the "Register" button to complete the quick Vanguard registration process, then return to this page and fill in your E-Mail address and Password then click "Login."

Step 3A - Review Order Specifications and Cost


Review your order as specified under "list criteria" as well as the number of records to be purchased and the amount.

Step 3B - Downloading Data Records


When receiving company data based on your search criteria or list selection, please wait until the progress bar at the bottom of your browser indicates that 100% of your data is ready to be saved. Click on "File" located at the top of the browser menu bar, then click on "Save As." Choose the drive where you wish to save the data (generally C:\ or D:\). Type in the name you wish to assign to this data set and be sure to save the file as a "Text" format with a file extension of .csv (Example: Newyork1.csv) . Be sure to remember the filepath and filename so you can go there later to open the file with most spreadsheet and database programs. Note that if you have Microsoft Excel loaded on your computer, you can find the file using Windows File Manager, My Computer, or Explorer, then double click on the filename. It will automatically open that csv (comma separate value) file.
